True Wellness Kids

It can be challenging when it comes to helping our children and infants if we wish to avoid pharmaceutical medications and take a more natural approach to their health. In the first year of babyhood children often endure their first immune challenge and for me, it represents a "turning on of the immune system". It is the biological system waking up to the new environment. Naturally, breast feeding is important for both mom and baby in creating a bonding for both, and supplying baby with a powerful immunity boost in the breast milk itself. A runny nose, cough and even a mild fever are all a sign of appropriate immune responses'. With professional guidance such events should pose no long term negative effects. Any illness that last for more then a few days or progressively worsens should immediately be addressed by a health care professional. No one, especially parents, wants to see children suffer needlessly and alleviating symptoms is important for the comfort of the child and the parent. We strive to strike a balance between suppression of symptoms and the healthy expression of an immune response.

There are many good reasons to use natural whole food supplements and homeopathic remedies with children. With infants and young children homeopathic are effective, safe and easy to administer. Some encouraging facts with homeopathics and children is that there are no known side effects to homeopathic remedies. Side effects--this term always makes me laugh. Side effects of medications are still effects just unwanted ones.

Tylenol may take away your headache and reduce fever yet stress the liver in the process, a relatively unknown yet unwanted effect. Homeopathics don't stress organs because they don't force or suppress, rather they support and allow. Another great thing about using homeopathy is we can't overdose on it. The best effect with homeopathy is a complete recovery through the supporting of the body's natural ability to heal. In truth, homeopathy may be best understood as giving the body correct information (through plants) so the system becomes aware of the issue and responds appropriately. Homeopathy for children and adults has been used with great success throughout Europe as the primary go to medicine for centuries.

Some homeopathics that mom and dad can have on hand and use for those babyhood challenges are:

Engystol: This is a fever reducer and powerful for viral type conditions.

Flu Plus: is great for flu and cold like symptoms.

Mucosa Compositum: Very good in helping congestion and the rebuilding and supporting of the mucosa lining. This can help with digestive discomfort or sinus issues.

Pulsatilla Compositum: Powerful for infection, inflammation and especially great with separation anxiety.

Cough: both dry and wet coughs due to colds and flu.

Body Pure: Works well on rashes, headaches and nausea.

SanCom: SanCom is not a homeopathic it is a Pleomorphic remedy very good for children to give them the substance or the "building blocks" for producing strong cellular membrane thus supporting the body on a cellular level. It is an isopathic remedy, similar to homeopathic in the effectiveness and safety, different in the base substance it is creating from.

Whole food supplements are another great way to support children beyond babyhood. Giving nutritional support to our children is more critical today then ever. Much of the food children get is highly processed and lacks usable nutrition. Standard Process in a company that has a long track record of producing high quality whole food supplements. A few simple whole food supplements that support the needs of our active growing kids are:

Chewable Catalyn: This is a multi vitamin and trace mineral product with enzyme. Catalyn contains twelve raw foods, cold processed and blended. Catalyn supports the activation of enzyme systems and supports the entire body.

Chewable Congaplex: Great for congestion and viral infections, colds, flu, immune deficiency and fever.

Chewable Tuna Oil: This is a good source of DHA and EPA essential fatty acids and supports brain function, cardiovascular function and visual health.

These are a few of the essentials that one may want to have and use at home in your "medicine cabinet". As with any remedy, children's dosage is generally less then that for adults. Children tend to respond well and quickly to homeopathy. As with anything concerning our kids, be sure to work with someone who has been trained and whom you feel confident about working with. I hope this helps in mom's and dad's ability to support their children at the first sign of the sniffles or gut distress. If we can be of service, please let us know.

Radiation Article

We recently came across an article by done by Gwenneth Paltrow on radiation. Interestingly some of the products listed to guard yourself against radiation are available at True Wellness.

Here a few of the tips that were suggested in her newsletter....

1. Look to start incorporating seaweed, such as kelp into your diet.

2. Have some miso soup. It was found to protect against radiation after World War II in a study.

3. Eat a variety of red, lycopene rich fruits and veggies, which have been shown to have anti-radiation properties.

4. Supplement with Chlorella, a good superfood which protects against radiation.

5. Ask your practitioner about our new Environmental Solution spray, commonly used against radiation.
