Products: Beauty

We know that this is one area that can be really overwhelming when it comes to making the healthiest decision! It's surprising to many people just how many nasty ingredients are snuck into our skin care and do you really want to be absorbing additional toxins? If its important to you the quality of food you are putting into your body, it should be equally important what you are putting on to your body!
.

EWG.org is thorough cosmetic data base that we often rely on. You can get great information for what ingredients to watch out for and also to see a rating of almost ANY product! They make it easy to see how much of the ingredients are toxic, what products are safe and the simple explanation for the ingredients we can't even pronounce!
.

Honest Beauty is the new comer on the makeup and skincare scene, so we don't have a ton of experience with Jessica Alba's product quite yet. We can say we are fans of her other baby and home products. From her mission to the ingredients she uses and keeps out of her products...we give this line the green light! These products are currently only available online.
.

The Honest Company continues to impress us with each product they put out! From lotion to deodorants, we have found these products to be great! Although they are sold as baby products, we use them on the whole family! While its easiest to order these products online, some are available at Target and Whole Foods.
.

Weleda has quite a history of developing products to heal the whole body. We are fans of their baby products, deodorants, lotions and toothpaste! They can easily be found at Wegmans and Whole Foods.
.

Dr.Bonner's has a famous packaging that is hard to miss! They have a clean castor oil soap that can be used as shampoo, body wash and even for cleaning. You can find this at Whole Foods.
.

Tarte is a amazing high end makeup line that we have fallen in love with. Their products are free of parabens, mineral oil or sulfates. This product is found at Sephora.
.

Dr. Hauschka is a high quality line of skincare and makeup. Their products come with a hefty price tag but you can trust the ingredients, hands down. Their products can be found at Whole Foods and Wegmans.
.
Josie Maran we are whole heartedly in love with her line! From her rich, pure argan oil to her gentle cosmetics, these products do not disappoint!

Q "I don't understand how cow's milk is bad for you, but other milk is ok, like sheep and goat?"

A "So why should we eliminate cow dairy from our diets you ask? Many of us think it's for those labeled 'lactose intolerant', but that's not it. Most of us don't stop to think that cow's milk is designed to bring a 200 lb infant calf to a 800 lb cow in a year. Does that sound like it's designed for humans?

So our other options sheep and goat; their milk's protein is much closer to the protein of a human's milk. Infant to adult sizes are much more like our own.

Most importantly, the protein of cow's milk is not easily digested. We rely on our immune systems to attack the molecule to remove it, similar to a bacteria or virus. This causes undue stress to our systems. We should not be 'fighting off' our food! Cow dairy also forms mucus in our bodies; in the lymph and bowels primarily. This makes elimination sluggish, compromising our ability to get rid of waste.

If you haven't begun to explore the world of goat and sheep products, you are in for a real treat! There are a variety of cheeses, milks, yogurts available to you! Have fun experimenting with new flavors and types!

Q- "It seems like everyone has allergies now, especially kids! Why the sudden increase in affected kids?"

A- "Too many children today suffer with allergy symptoms. Seasonal allergies and food allergies are among the most well known and easiest to spot. Runny noses, red cheeks, droopy eyes and "allergy shiners" dark circle under the eyes are all signs of allergy suffering.

This however does not mean that the offending substance is the bad guy. Pollen for instance is not a toxin or poison in and of itself, and without pollination mankind would disappear rather quickly. The true issue regarding allergy is the bodies response to the substance and that is what needs to be addressed along with handling any peripheral stresses that many be supporting allergy reactions. Following the Allergy Elimination Protocol (A.E.P.) and eliminating certain other stresses living allergy free for life is achievable."

Q: "How can I stick to True Wellness's recommended diet (gluten free and dairy free) when invited over to friends and family for dinner? I'm worried with the holidays coming that I won't be able to avoid bad food!"

A: "Great question. Let me start by stating that everyone has their own level of sensitivities to various foods. As a general rule, we suggest maintaining a diet free of COW dairy- sheep, goat and buffalo are fine. Many people have a wheat/gluten sensitivity as well. I often offer to bring a dish I know I will enjoy and that won't make me suffer digestively. Family and friends should respect you decision to avoid certain foods that may give you unwanted symptoms. Depending on your level of health however, it is not always a bad thing to enjoy certain foods in moderation. Listen to your body and whatever you do, don't stress at meal times- that in and of itself is bad for digestion!"
