Spring is coming! While most of us begin our spring cleaning, make sure to do it the healthiest way possible. You invest in your health, so don't dose yourself with chemicals in your home. Here is a list of our tried and true cleaning mixtures and tips.
CLEAN: mattress
Start by removing all the bedding, wash with a gentle, non toxic detergent.
Next lift the mattress and box springs off the bed and thoroughly vacuum and dust.
Lay mattress back in place. Combine mixture of 1c baking soda and 4 drops of lavender oil in a jar, shake well. Use a kitchen strainer to sprinkle the mixture all over the mattress, let sit for about an hour. Using the hose end of your vacuum and an upholstery attachment, thoroughly vacuum the mattress. This helps to eliminate dust and mites, while deodorizing naturally.
CLEAN: tub
This is a miracle mixture to make your tub sparkle again! You likely have these simple ingredients in your cupboards!
Mix 1tspn liquid dish soap, 5 drops of tea tree or peppermint oil and 1c baking soda. Add just enough water to form a paste, mix well. Use course side of sponge to scour tub thoroughly. Rinse mixture off with hot water.
CLEAN: air freshener
CLEAN: dust
Combine juice of 1 lemon, 1 tbsp olive oil and 1 tbsp water in a jar. Shake vigorously till well mixed. Apply liquid to soft cloth, rub in circular motion to polish all wood surfaces.
CLEAN: glass
CLEAN: toilet
Mix 1/4c baking soda and 1c vinegar. Pour mixture into toilet and let sit for a few minutes. Scrub and flush.
CLEAN: glass
Combine 1/3c vinegar and 3/4c distilled water in a spray bottle. Spray on glass surfaces and use newspaper, cloth or paper towel to clean glass.
First we want to impress upon you how important it is to avoid chemically scented candles, plug-ins and room sprays. So many of these products are made with harsh chemicals that create a burden for our bodies. If fresh air and good old cleaning with natural ingredients leave don't cut it for your home, we recommend this all natural air fresh made with just food! Fill a crockpot or small sauce pan 2/3 full of water. Add a sliced lemon, 2 tspn vanilla and 2-4 sprigs of rosemary. Put on low heat and let stew all. Refresh water if needed.
